The unit was brought back into operation on Saturday, and once fully loaded, it is expected to contribute an additional 800 megawatts to the generation capacity.
Eskom views this as a significant achievement in its ongoing efforts to ultimately eliminate load shedding.
Daphne Mokwena, a spokesperson for Eskom, stated: “This is a noteworthy milestone in Eskom’s mission to reduce and eventually eliminate load shedding.
The reactivation took place after receiving a positive decision regarding Kusile’s atmospheric emission license appeal from the Minister of Forestry Fisheries and Environment and the Nkangala District Municipality.”
In the meantime, Eskom has announced that it will continue to suspend Eskom load shedding until Monday morning, thanks to the return of Kusile Unit 3 to service.
