Following this, load shedding will resume at Stage 1 during the evening hours and be suspended during the day, repeating this pattern until further notice.

Schedule:

  • Tuesday, 24 October: Suspended throughout the day.
  • Wednesday, 25 October: Suspended until 16:00, then Stage 1 from 16:00 to 00:00.
  • Thursday, 26 October: Stage 1 from 00:00 to 05:00, suspended from 05:00 to 16:00, and Stage 1 from 16:00 to 00:00.

This suspension is attributed to sufficient emergency generation reserves and lower anticipated evening peak demand.

Eskom continues to focus on maintaining its power generation capacity and improving performance to minimize load shedding during the summer months.

Analysis of Eskom’s fleet performance data reflects positive improvements, although energy supplies have not significantly increased, with much of the improvement attributed to reduced demand.

Consequently, the long-term trend data for outages in South Africa has seen a notable improvement, with projected total blackout hours decreasing to a cumulative 79.6 days, marking a significant decline from the high of 101 days predicted in May.
