Eskom Increases Load Shedding for the Coming Week - Updated Schedule

Eskom, South Africa’s power utility, has decided to reinstate load shedding due to the need to replenish emergency reserves before anticipated cold weather. The nine days of stable electricity supply had led to the depletion of these reserves.

As a result, Eskom will implement Stage 2 load shedding from 16:00 today until 16:00 on Monday.

Subsequently, Eskom will continue with Stage 2 and 3 load shedding until further notice.

Reserve Replenishment Schedule:

  • Sunday, 29 October: Stage 2 from 16:00 to 00:00.
  • Monday, 30 October: Stage 2 from 00:00 to 05:00, Stage 2 from 05:00 to 16:00, Stage 3 from 16:00 to 00:00.
  • Tuesday, 31 October: Stage 3 from 00:00 to 05:00, Stage 2 from 05:00 to 16:00, Stage 3 from 16:00 to 00:00.

Eskom is closely monitoring the power system and will communicate any changes in the load shedding schedule if required. Presently, Eskom has 5,950MW of generation capacity offline for planned maintenance, and 16,150MW is unavailable due to breakdowns.

Teams are working to restore additional generating units.

Eskom anticipates a peak demand of 27,557MW on Monday evening, with an evening peak demand forecast of 24,824MW.

The utility urges the public to continue reducing demand by switching off non-essential appliances and commends those who conserve electricity effectively.
